A PROTOTYPICAL SPEAKER

Hello, everyone!

When we aim to become better at some particular field, we need a perfect model, someone to look up to. Since my Blog is devoted to developing and mastering my Public speaking skills, In this post I'm going to share some ideas on my Image of a Prototypical Speaker.

Since I am female, I will talk about a Speaker of my gender.

So my Prototypical Speaker is...

  1. Connected with the audience. She is not just speaking, but communicating. She connects with the audience in the first few minutes by sharing a funny incident, a startling statement or a poem or even riveting story - a good story evokes emotion and offers a lesson. She aims to give an inspiring presentation by having a message she believes in that the audience can connect to. She speaks on a subject that their audience needs to hear. She wants to touch their hearts and minds. She exudes a level of sincerity in her emotion when communicating to the audience. This way the audience is moved by her presentation.
  2. Is able to keep her auditory engaged. She addresses the auditory with the help of verbal and non-verbal communication: she keeps them interested by making use of her body language: the eye contact, and open pose, and appropriate gestures. The eye contact makes each person feel attended to, they appear to be more heartfelt and really present for the audience. The connection between her and the audience is what allows them to truly listen to her message and be inspired.
  3. Is pleasant to look at. She’ is Well-dressed (Smart clothing: not informal, but not too formal as well); she is neat, her hair is clean and tidy.
  4. Is pleasant to listen to. She speaks plainly, using simple words, short sentences. She uses everyday language to make complicated topics clear and understandable. She won't show off her expertise by using a specialized vocabulary.
  5. Is able to vary her voice. It is never monotonous. Her voice sparkles with change (changes of pitch, volume, and speed, tone, intonation) as she considers the auditory size, or delivers a certain aim (persuade, inform, intrigue). She avoids talking in a tone that seems too well rehearsed. The wrong tone can spoil the message of the speech. She takes the speed and inflection of her delivery into account when she practices her speech.
  6. Well-educated.         She is smart and intelligent. She may talk on various themes or issues in case some extra information is required.
  7. ProvidentShe arrives early and checks out the sound system, the presentation player. She analyses the auditory.                                                                                     Moreover, she must be aware of her target audience ahead of time.
  8. Confident. She has no stage fright. According to a study published by the University of Wolverhampton “A highly confident speaker is viewed as being more accurate, competent, credible, intelligent, knowledgeable, likable, and believable than the less confident uncertain speaker.”
  9. Motivated.                                                                                                                      She is excited about her future speech. She desires to share her ideas and deliver her message to the audience. She is an engaging speaker.
  10. Creative. She creates presentations and speeches in best way, making them eye-catching, calm or expressive. She needs to say plain things in interesting ways, and interesting things in plain ways.
  11. Is stuck to the structure of her Speech. She speaks to the point. She knows how to make her opening remarks related to the material that follows, she builds a bridge through her points with a help of linking words. She starts with announcing the main problems to be solved, uses some engaging tricks. Before closing, she summarizes and reiterates her major points. She ends with an inspiring story and a call to action. She holds the audience accountable - to take some action in the next few days or weeks.
  12. Is aware of Time limit. She never exceeds time assigned to her Speech.
  13. Critical to herself.       She aims to become better than she is. Self-evaluation is important for her as she finds it to be the best way for self-development.

Well, now you see what I understand when I hear "The great Speaker".
I believe, that all above mentioned traits can build up a holistic Image of a Model Speaker I will look up to on my way of developing my own skills.

Uffff...a lot of work is to be done still! I promise to do my best to get at least "a slightest" resemblance to my Prototypical speaker.
Every effort is a new experiment, and I will go for it. Are you following me..?:)

What is your Model of excellence? I'd love to know your opinion!:
