STEP #2

My Path continues as I go through the Step #2.
Are you following? 😉
Our Professor created an imaginary situation for us to act out:
we were participants of the Conference of Teachers.
Our task was to sell a creative product - an activity for students or pupils, which can be used for developing speaking skills.
We were invited to make it sound effective, providing all the vital benefits of involving pupils into the activity.
So each member of our group was giving one particular activity. This one was mine:
We had about 15 minutes to be ready with the task - prepare a Speech. This time was enough for me get the whole idea of the activity, think of it’s advantages and importance of using it on the lessons.
Thus, the speech was quite spontaneous. You can get acquainted with it:
As we learnt later, this was "a Trial version" of our "Advertisment"
For the next double-period we were to prepare a similar speech, after watching the previous video.
So here is my written speech:
"What do we study English for? Have your students ever asked you that question?
The activity I offer is a great chance for students to realize the actual value of studying English..
The activity I’m presenting is called simply Interview. But it’s not as simple as it seems to be.
Consider long pieces of yarn or ribbon. Let’s say, 7, if you work with a group of 14. hold them in the center of your hand. One by one students pull an end of the ribbon discover who is their partner.
They interview each other for 5 minutes, asking basic questions and seeking for 1 most interesting and unique fact about their classmate. After the interview is completed, students work individually preparing a short introductory speech.
The main idea of the activity is that since your students are interviewing a classmate they don’t know much about, they are highly motivated to learn more about their new partner. That is when they realize the real significance Of English speaking skills.
Thus, this amazing kind of interview is a brilliant way to make your students starve for speaking English and develop their skills even further."
We presented our "well-prepared" SPEECH the next day.
Here are two videos, similar in thematic purpose, but quite different in way of presenting.
I believe my second speech was way better than the 1st one. I didn't feel that nervous in comparison with the first time. I din't learn the speech by heart, but I had a structure in my had and I tried to keep to it. In the first video you can see, that my hands were almost leaning on the desk, which wasn't really appropriate when you present a speech. However, it didn't work better with the second speech. Even though I was holding the ribbon and my hands were busy holding it, the hands were still shaking, ribbon trembling. I tried to keep the audience interested with the help of eye-contact, but I don't think I achieved the aim, as I was more concentrated on my speech, but not the audience.
All in all, I liked the second version of speech better , than the previous one.
There's still A LOT to improve and work at.
Thank you for following me. I promise to keep in touch and share my progress with you.
