SOCIAL PSYCHOLOGY. PART1. TIME FOR SELF-DEVELOPMENT. SOCIAL PSYCHOLOGY

Can Studying be ENJOYABLE?

Absolutely YES,
if you're studying something you are highly interested in!

Our Professor of Public Speaking invited us to take an on-line Course on

I must admit, that his field of study always attracted me, that is why I was delighted to get an opportunity to take a Course on Social Psychology for free. There is one more reason of my "gladness": I have always wished to study Psychology, but, to be honest, I don't think I would ever start it myself (mostly due to the lack of time) without the wise suggestion of our Professor.

As we already know, Public speaking implies communication with audience. This requires at least a basic knowledge of social psychology in order to achieve the goal of your speech: make them interested, involved, persuade or even change their minds about the matter, to earn their trust and attention, applying a certain psychological method.

So the website for our MOOC is openedu.ru. It offers a wide range of Courses on different fields of studies, conducted by highly ranked universities all over the world.

The Course is taught by  Olga Gulevich, who is a Professor of Social Psychology at HSE University.

I started with Module 1, which is an introduction into the basis of Social psychology. It covered the main problems of social study, methods and types of investigations, and the Code of Ethics for psychologists. The Best thing about the Course, that you gain new knowledge by watching video- and audio-lectures. Moreover, there's an additional material for you to get deeper into the question that you found interest in.

In the end of the Module you are to take a test on the level of your understanding. So here are my results:

...Not bad..but not perfect as well...

As you may see, I've made one mistake. And in fact, that was the one question I had doubt about. Each question contained a situation. This one was about a theory of people choosing their partners based of seeking for emotional benefits. I believed it was an Evolutionary approach, rather than Behavioural, because, as it seemed to me, it conveyed the survival instinct of Human beings. But I got it wrong, which makes me struggling to learn more about the study, which is so important for us as social creations.

All in all, I feel enthusiastic to continue my immersion into the Study of Social Psychology.
