CHALLENGE #1
Hello, World!:)
I am here again
for a special mission.
In one of the
previous posts I made a list of Challenges which may help me make at least a
tiny step out of my Comfort zone.
So today is a
start-date. As I promised, I will face one challenge a week.
So the first point
in my “why-not” list was:
“Give a compliment to a random
person in Facebook”
I placed it first
because I consider this task the easiest one. However, I must admit it wasn’t
as simple as I thought it would be.
I was looking
through pages in Facebook and picked an account of a girl from the USA, named
Alison, who is my age.
I didn’t have any
criteria for considering a person to get my challenge into action, apart from
one: the person should be of a female gender. You may wonder about
the reason behind it. In fact, it’s simple: the male would probably treat my
compliments as flirting, and it isn’t my aim.
Alison’s page impressed me because
most of her posts were vivacious, full of optimism and positive vibes.
This was the message I sent her:
Frankly speaking, before carrying
out this task, I didn’t care much about what to write and who to write. I was
going to message a stranger, who I would not ever meet or even talk to.
However, I felt quite nervous when I actually started to text Alison. I took it
more responsibly to think of the right words and appropriate compliments to
make a positive impression on that person and not to frighten her by my awkward
interference.
I just imagined: what if it
had happened to me? How would I
feel? What would be my reaction like? I thought I would be really surprised to
get such a message. But first thing that came to my mind was: “I would be
suspicious. If I got the message I sent to Alison, I would probably treat it as
an attempt to be advertised something.” Usually strangers act out a polite
character purely for their own advantage. I would primarily ask myself: “What
is this person aiming to? What do they want from me?”
To my great surprise, my addressee
had the opposite reaction.
So here is the message I got
back:
Alison’s answer was more
than satisfying. She fulfilled my expectations about her character. She proved
to be open, easy-going and optimistic person who is pleasant to talk to.
I
believe, we can even become pen-pals further on.
After getting this friendly
reply I felt jubilant and relieved.
I was encouraged by just a thought that there
are so many amazing things you can do and achieve if you just make a step out
of your comfort zone.
All it takes is a trust in the world and belief in yourself.
What do you think about this challenge?
What is your normal reaction on receiving a text message from a stranger?
Share your thoughts down below! :)
P.S.: I will soon be back with my new challenge! Wish me luck :)
