MY PERSUASIVE SPEECH #1. DISINFORMATION
Since
we are soon to perform our persuasive speech, it’s time for us to make up our
minds about the topics to present.
So,
in this post I’m going to accomplish the following tasks:
·
answer the questions to determine the topic of my
presentation
·
set its purpose and objectives
·
define the steps for preparing a speech
It
was not easy for me to come up with an idea of which issue I would like to
cover. The persuasive speech means influence, so I decided to
choose the topic which, to my mind, will be relevant and useful to the audience
I’m addressing. So, my speech is to answer the following question:
“How to avoid Disinformation in the age of
social media?”
The
key to successful presentation is preparation. Before delivering your speech it
is important to have clear understanding of the target of your message: what
effect you want to produce and what goal you want to achieve. So, in order to determine the topic of my
speech and set its purpose and objectives, I had to answer several questions.
1.
Why should I want to talk about this? The
problem of Disinformation is especially topical in these days due to the rising
number of fake news in the Social media. Modern life is full of propaganda. Even
advertisement, which is bombarding us, is not only often a pile of disinformation but actually targeting directly our subconscious mind. It is
necessary to learn how to survive in the era of disinformation.
2.
Why should anybody want to listen to me? The issue I aim to cover is extremely relevant and
useful to the audience I’m addressing, because each of us eventually falls
under the influence of Social media which fills our heads with false and
misleading information online.
3.
What single message would I want to put across?
We need to develop critical
minds - grow our capability to filter, research and evaluate information we get
from different sources.
4.
What need in the audience do I want to have satisfied
when I have finished speaking?
I aim my audience to take the
problem of disinformation seriously, to get a clear understanding of the ways
the social media influences our minds and get a practical guidance on avoiding
misleading information.
5.
When they all walk away what state would I like them
to leave in?
When all they walk away, I
would like them to have a feeling of being able to take a better control and insurance
over the information they from the World around.
The Purpose of my presentation is to
persuade everyone to develop critical thinking in perceiving information
provided by the Social media.
The objectives of the speech are:
- 1.
To talk
about the purpose of providing misleading information by Social media
- 2.
To define the
spheres of life influenced by deliberate disinformation
- 3.
To resent audience
a practical guidance on how to identify fake information
In
order to fulfill The Purpose and Objectives of my future speech, I find it
necessary to define the steps that
will help me to prepare for the presentation.
So
here is my list:
1 1. Read
articles on the internet in order to learn more about the topic.
2. Watch YouTube, Ted Talk videos on covering the issue of fake information spreading through the Social media.
3. Make a research: study different Social media channels on a trace of disinformation.
4. Make an investigation: create a questionnaire to elicit people’s opinion on the topic and reveal what interests them most.
5. Analyze the suggestions of the respondents and build a scheme of my presentation.
