Introduction

| |||
What technique(s) was used in the introduction?
|
Kate started her speech with rhetorical questions: "Can even imagine unprepared speech? How would it look like?"
Moreover, she referred to the audience's experience, highlighting that this aspect is topical for us, as each of us from time to time is bound to give an unprepared speech. This way she caught our attention and made us interested in the topic she was going to deliver.
| |||||
Any link-element?
| It was hard to define a clear link, but I believe, such was: "If your speech is properly written that is the half way success." | |||||
Was the thesis statement given?
|
It was given: "With careful planning and an eye for detail, you can write a speech that will inform, persuade, motivate, or entertain!"
| |||||
How effective was the introduction?
|
It was effective. The introduction itself intrigued the audience and won their attention to the following text. Kate also included the preview, which is also important for an effective introduction.

| |||
How well structured was the information presented?
|
The information was well-structured. The speech was divided into two blocks (Steps of drafting; Golden rules of writing a speech).
| |||||
What organizational structure was used in the body of the speech?
|
The body was built according to the problem-solution pattern.
| |||||
How understandable was the information (was it clearly explained)?
|
The information was clearly explained.
| |||||
Quality of point-support (appropriateness, completeness, variety)
|
The speech had a good level of point-support. It was appropriate and complete.
| |||||
Use of facts, illustrations, examples, stories.
|
Kate used several examples. However, the speech, to my mind, was not well-illustrated.
| |||||
Was it coherent?
|
It was coherent. Each part logically succeeded the other.

Conclusion

| |||
What technique(s) was used in the conclusion?
|
There wasn't any special technique used in the conclusion.
| |||||
Were all the steps followed (summary, action, emotional appeal?)
|
There was a summary, the speaker summarized what her speech was about: "Today we discussed the steps for writing a draft and the necessary rules for writing an effective speech."
The action: "Give yourself plenty of time to craft your speech and practice it several times for best results."
The emotional appeal was also used in the conclusion, but I doubt if it was en effective one, because it didn't encourage the audience, but brought a comfort to them: their first speech is unlikely to be perfect, anyway. "Remember you won’t write a perfect speech from the first time."
| |||||
How effective was the conclusion?
|
It was quite effective.
