INTRODUCTION - KEY TO AN EFFECTIVE PUBLIC SPEECH
I’m here to share one of the tasks we were to accomplish for our Public
Speaking course at the university.
In this post I’m going to evaluate a piece of a video, on the efficiency
of speech introduction.
I will rate each introduction on a scale of 1-5:
“Did the introduction attract you attention? Did it contribute to making you interested in
the topic?”
1 – not at all
2 – rather “not”, than “yes”
3 – rather, “yes”, than “not”
4 – yes
3 – rather, “yes”, than “not”
4 – yes
5 – definitely “yes”

It was useful
for me to do this task, as I am soon going to create and give a speech, where I
should try my best to make the introduction effective, as it is the key to
winning the audience’s attention and interest in the speech itself.
There were some super-useful
technics in the videos I watched, that I’d like to borrow for my next speech:
Such as starting
with the astonishing, humorous life stories that opened the great talks of Tom
Nash and James Veitch, or placing startling rhetorical questions in the first line,
like in the honest speech of Martha Minow.
Would you agree
with the scores I left for each video?
Whose introduction seems to be the most
effective for you?
Please share your thoughts down below! :)
